YANKEES 3
INDIANS 5

Tuesday night at the Stadium did not go according to the usual script.
Andy Pettitte pitched a good 6 1/3 innings, and handed it over to Joba Chamberlain…. and Joba actually blew the game. The Yankees fell to the Indians, 5-3.

Andy Pettitte hurled 6 1/3 innings of solid two-run ball, giving up only two runs on five hits, walking one and striking out six. When Pettitte left the game with a 3-2 lead, everyone figured that the Joba-Rivera combo was in order to finish it off. However, Joba Chamberlain walked two batters, and then served up a pinch-hit three-run homer to David Dellucci, to give the tribe a 5-3 lead.

Offensively, Jason Giambi and Robinson Cano, who both have been struggling basly, came through with run scoring hits in the 4th to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. Hideki Matsui kept his hot bat going, with a 3-3 game, and Jason Giambi had 2 RBI on the night.

The Yankees will play game 2 of the series on Wednesday, and try to rebound with the undefeated Chien-Ming Wang on the mound for the Yanks.

GAME NOTES:
PETTITTE: 6.1IP, 5H, 2ER, 6SO
MATSUI: 3-3
GIAMBI: 1-3, RBI
