YANKEES 2
ASTROS 1
Friday night in Houston marked the first time ever that the New York Yankees have visited Houston for a regular season game. Joba chamberlain got the start and pitched a very good 6 innings, and Derek Jeter hit a homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 victory.
Joba Chamberlain got the start for the Yankees, and pitched 88 pitches and lasted a full 6 innings. Joba scattered six hits, allowing one run while walking four (two intentionally) and striking out two. Chamberlain would not pick up his first win as a starter though, because the Yankees only managed 1 run off of Shaun Cahcon, and Joba left the game in a 1-1 tie.
Jose Veras threw a scoreless 7th and 8th innings, and Kyle Farnsworth pitched a scorelsss 9th inning to pick up a save.
Offensively, the Yankees would score in the 1st inning, on an Alex Rodriguez single which scored Bobby Abreu. After that…the Yanks were helf silent, until Derek Jeter hit an opposite field homerun in the 8th inning, to give the Yankees the 2-1 lead, and victory.
The Yankees are now 2 games over .500 at (35-33), and will play on Saturday night in Houston, as MikeMussina will take the mound.
GAME NOTES:
CHAMBERLAIN: 6IP, 6H, 1ER, 2SO
