Last night in Toronto Joba Chamberlain made his MLB debut.

He was likely more than a little nervous and showed he can pitch in the big leagues. In 2 full innings he had 1 hit, 2 walks and 2 k’s and got a game ending double play in the 9th. It’s great that he has proved himself as a starter and will be more than able to pitch 2 days in a row but he won’t be brought in in the middle of innings. He as a 130 innings limit this season and he has already pitched 89 1/2. I think that’s just the Yanks babying the youngsters again. What if he pitches 130, the Yanks make the post season and he’s posting a …say less than 3.00 era….you don’t think he’s gonna be pitching in October!? But I won’t go crazy on that.

His slider last night was fantastic, it looked like it has a 3 foot drop on it, I think it is clear that that’s his best “out” pitch and now I know why he was shacking off Posada in the 8th…to get to that pitch. It looked like he had a bit of trouble locating his fastball but I think that was just nerves, I look for him to settle down nicely in the bullpen the rest of the season and if he proves…do we see a starting rotation of Wang, Pettitte, Mussina, Hughes and Chamberlain next year?
