YANKEES 9
INDIANS 2
Tonight at The Stadium, the Yankees once again blew out the Cleveland Indians 9-2, and Kei Igawa picked up his first Major League win.
Making his third start, Igawa (1-0) allowed two runs in the third inning, surrendering run-scoring hits to Jason Michaels and Travis Hafner, but kept the Indians off the board in five other frames. Igawa scattered five hits in the effort, walking one and striking out five. Once again, the bullpen was solid, Scott Proctor and Sean Henn pitched scoreless innings and Chris Britton polished off the Tribe in the ninth.
Offensively, the Yankees pounded 14 hits and batted 10 men in a five-run third inning, for the second night in a row. After the 5 five-run inning, in which five different hitters knocked in a run, the Yankees tacked on in the sixth with their first back-to-back home runs of the season. Rodriguez hit his Major League-leading ninth homer, and then was followed by a Giam-bomb homerun by Jason Giambi. Derek Jeter had three hits in four at-bats as every Yankees starter contributed at least one hit.
The Bombers look to sweep the series from the Tribe, Thursday afternoon at 1:00pm, as Darrell Rasner takes on Fausto Carmona. and of course, after that gaem..the Yanks will be taking on the Red Sox for the weekend series!!
