All season long we heard “Phil Hughes is untouchable”…. “Hughes is the future” etc…. Well… lok sas if the Yankees quickly changed their mind, as they are said to be offering Phil Hughes, along with Melky Cabrera and a minor leaguer to the Twins for Johan Santana.

Boston, like New York, has been discussing opportunities with Minnesota GM Bill Smith for days, but the Red Sox have reached a similar dilemma. They have reportedly offered left-hander Jon Lester and outfielder Coco Crisp for Santana, but Minnesota has asked for promising outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and right-hander Clay Buchholz, players the World Series champions have been reluctant to trade.

I think the Yankees are giving up too much..because when it comes down to it… the Red Sox are the only other team with anything to give to Minnesota, and they aren’t going to part with that many players. The Yankees could have waited till end of season to sign Santana… and then I guarantee the Twins would get nervous and deal hi for maybe Ian Kennedy instead of Hughes. Either way… getting Johan Santana is a great move…but I think too much is being offered.
