YANKEES 2
ORIOLES 8

Friday night in Baltimore, the Yankees fell to the Orioles, 8-2. Phil Hughes has now dropped to 0-3 on the season, and he got hit hard again. With the game tied at 1-1, the Orioles had a seven run, 6th inning.

Phil Hughes actually pitched well for the fitst 5 innings, before falling apart in the sixth inning. Hughes, who allowed five runs on a career-high nine hits despite throwing 60 of his 97 pitches for strikes. LaTroy Hawkins replaced Hughes, and promptly gave up another two runs.

Offensively, the Yankees had men on base and threatened in almost eveyr inning, but they could never capitalize. Chad Moeller, who drove in both of the Yankees’ runs, led off the seventh with a homer to left field that drove Cabrera from the game … but the Yanks could not score off of the improved Oriole bullpen.

The Yankees will send Ian Kennedy out to the mound for game 2 of the series, in hopes that maybe 1 of their youngsters can actually get a win.

GAME NOTES:
HUGHES: 5.1IP, 9H, 5ER, 1SO
MOELLER: 1-3, HR, 2RBI
ABREU: 2-4
