YANKEES 4
TIGERS 6
Tuesday night at the Stadium, the Yankees lost to the Detroit Tigers, 6-4. Phil Hughes pitched yet another awful game, only lasting 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs.
Phil Hughes (0-4) has been absolutely horrible this season for the Yankees, and actually heard the boos from the home crowd. Hughes went only 3 2/3 innings, and gave up 6 runs on 8 hits, and he walked 3. The good news actually came in the form of Yankee reliever Ross Ohlendorf, who pitched 3 1/3 innings, and only gave up 1 hit, while striking out 5 Tigers.
The Yankee bullpen did a good job of keeping the Tigers at 6 runs, but it was too much of a hole for the offense to come back from.
Robinson Cano drove in two runs with a homer in the second inning, but then the Yanks stranded the bases loaded on numerous occasions. This season has been a story of leaving way too many men in scoring positions.
The Yankees will play game 2 of the set on Wednesday, when Andy Pettitte faces Bonderman.
GAME NOTES:
HUGHES: 3.2 IP, 8H, 6ER
CANO: 1-5, HR, 2RBI
JETER: 1-4, RBI
