Hank Steinbrenner told The New York Times on Sunday that the club should move Chamberlain into the rotation as soon as possible.
“I want him as a starter and so does everyone else, including him, and that is what we are working toward and we need him there now,” Steinbrenner told the newspaper. “There is no question about it, you don’t have a guy with a 100-mile-per-hour fastball and keep him as a setup guy. You just don’t do that. You have to be an idiot to do that.”

Brian Cashman repsonded “Joba’s staying in the bullpen right now,” Cashman told the newspaper. “That’s where we’re at. [Putting him in the rotation is] not something that’s going to happen here early on, and [Hank] knows that. We’ve talked about it. I don’t know what set him off.”

It is clear that Hank is in panic mode right now, because Ian Kennedy and Phil hughes have not pitched as expected to start the season. However, you can not rush and panic, because that only leads to bad decisions. It is very early on, and the weather hasn’t been great either…. so lets se what Kennedy and Hughes can do first. Also… I don’t see much in Joba Chamberlain as a starter anyway. Anytime he has gone more than a few innings, he gets hit hard. Why would you ruin a GREAT situation by having Joba-Rivera as a knockout blow at the end of every game….. afterall…it’s what got the Yanks their championship in 1996.
