YANKEES 2
RANGERS 3
Tuesday night at the Stadium, the Yankees dropped their second straight game to the Rangers, 3-2. Once again, the Yankee bats failed to score runs, and Joba Chamberlain walked too many people which worked his pitch count too high..too quick. However, the pitching wasn’t the problem, as the problem was the Yankee bats again. Also… Joe Girardi made some questionable managing decisions for this game.
Joba Chamberlain would only work 4 innings, as his pitch count was quickly up to 91 pitches. Chamberlain gave up 2 runs on 5 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 6 Rangers. Dan Giese (one inning, one hit), David Robertson (two innings, no hits and two walks) and Jose Veras (one inning, no hits and one walk) — combined to shut out the Rangers after Chamberlain left and before Rivera took the mound.
Mariano Rivera picked up the loss, as he gave up a run in the 9th inning to break a 2-2 tie.
Offensively the Yankees did not score runs yet again. The Yankees were 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position against the Rangers (44-41) and are 5-for-32 in their past four games.
The lone bright spot was Robinson Cano, going 2-4 with an RBI.
It didn’t help that Joe Girardi keeps resting players, and starting these no-name rookies in the lineup. Not only does he start a rookie..but he bats him 2nd in the lineup. Aside from the lineup mishaps… Girardi failed to have Melky Cabrera bunt in the 9th inning with the tieing runner on 1st base. Melky had been on a 0-18 streak, and it made sense to ANYONE to have bunt the runner over to 2nd, and instead he had him swinging away.
The Yankees will tr yto avoid a sweep at the hands of the Rangers on Wednesday as they send Sidney Ponson to the mound.
GAME NOTES:
CHAMBERLAIN: 4IP, 5H, 2ER, 4BB, 6SO
CANO: 2-4, RBI
