Saturday night in Baltimore, the Yankees defeated the Orioles, 5-3. Jason Giambi hit a 2 run homerun, and also had an RBI single, to giv the Yankees their offense, behind a decent pitching performance from Carl Pavano…. YES..Carl Pavano.

Carl Pavano actually made it through a game without getting injured, and although he got into trouble in just about every inning, he kep tthe damage to a minimal. Pavano gave up 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 5 batter and walking 1. Pavano threw 91 pitches over five innings, 54 of them for strikes, survived hitting two batters and set down eight of the final 12 batters he faced.
Pavano was relieved in the 6th inning by Brian Bruney, who pitched two scoreless innings, and then Veras and Rivera closed the game out with an inning each.

Yankees jumped out to a 1st inning lead, on an Alex Rodriguez triple which scored Johnny Damon, and then Jason Giambi hit a bsehit into the shift, to score A-Rod from 3rd base, and the Yanks led 2-0.
In the 3rd inning, Jason Giambi connected on a 2 run homerun, to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead. In the 7th inning, Hideki Matsui added a homerun to give the Yankees an insurance run, and a 5-3 lead.

The Yankees will send Darrell Rasner to the mound on Sunday afternoon. The Yanks picked up a game on the Red Sox, and cut the Wild Card lead down to 5 games.
