Well, the season ends earlier than expected for the New York Yankees again. The Yankees were eliminated in the first round, by the Cleveland Indians. The bombers did not bomb…as they their bats were pretty much held silent all series long, except for a few solo homeruns. The Indians defeated the Yankees 6-4 in the final game, winning the series 3 games to 1, and advancing to the ALCS to face the Boston Red Sox. the seies loss, could mean the end of the Joe Torre Era.

Chien-Ming Wang did not pitch well this series. Wang pitched poorly in Game 1, and couldnt get out of the 2nd inning in Game 4. Down 3-0, Mike Mussina entered, and after a few innings, Mussin aleft with the Yanks down 6-1. The Yankees attempted a comeback by hitting a few solo homeruns, but just like the rest of the series, the Yanks could not get a hit with runners in scoring position.

In a nut shell…. here are the basics of the series:
1) Cleveland pitching was much better.
2) Cleveland hitting with RISP was way better.
3) A-Rod pulled his usual “one hand weak swing because its the playoffs” all series long and either struck out or popped up.
4) Jeter did not have his usual clutch playoff performance…he grounded into double plays in big spots.
5) Robinson Cano played a very good series…and Bobby Abreu wasn’t bad either…but everyone else SUCKED!!

With the loss, it could be the end of the Joe Torre era. George Stenbrenner issued a statement before Game 3, stating that “a series loss, could mean the end of Joe Torre”. As much as it is sad to see an era come to an end .. I think it is time. Joe Torre just doesnt have what it takes to manage a game anymore. Since 1994, he has made MANY questionabel decisions that have cost this Yankee team. To lose in the first round again, is unacceptable. Many people say “But torre did a great job managing this year, he brought the Yankees back”…but the reality of it is…if you really know baseball…he did NOT. He was forced to bring up young players that he would not have given a chance…and Yanks starting winning. PLus..if you are going to give him credit for a comeback..then why did he have the team under .500 in the first place??

Stay tuned…we will have Joe Torre debate and articles to come! There is no such thing as “OFF SEASON” in NY Yankee baseball!!
