YANKEES 9
ORIOLES 10
Tuesday night in Baltimore, the Yankees let two 4 run leads slip away, and a 1 run 11th inning lead slip away. The Yankees and Orioles traded nine home runs, and Ian Kennedy got bombed once again, and the Yankee bullpen showed why it can’t afford to lose Joba.
Ian Kennedy went just three innings before serving up back-to-back homers and exiting due to a slightly strained right lat muscle (or so thats what the excuse was). The real reason he left, is that he got hit hard again, giving up 4 runs in only 3 innings. The bullpen did no better, as Ohlendorf gave up four runs — all on homers, and LaTroy Hawkins could not protect a one-run lead in the 11th, as he gave up 2 runs for the loss.
Offensively, the Yankees did their own bombing…hitting Orioles starter Brian Burres for eight runs in 3 2/3 innings, including back-to-back homers by Bobby Abreu and Alex Rodriguez in the fourth. Jason Giambi and Johhny Damon also added homers, and giambi’s homerun landed out on Eutaw Street.
The Yankees will send Andy Pettitte to the mound to try and salvage a game from the Orioles.
