Jeter (knee/thigh bruise) said he was a late scratch from Thursday’s game because he was still sore from being hit by a pitch on Tuesday, NY Newsday reports. Miguel Cairo replaced him at shortstop in a losing effort on Thursday. This doesn’t sound like anything overly serious, so Jeter should be in the lineup for the series opener against the Red Sox on Friday (if there is no Rainout).
