Brian Cashman finalized a contract extension on Tuesday to remain as the general manager of the Yankees, an agreement that will run through the 2011 season.

It was uncertain as to the future of Brian Cashman after this season of the Yankees not making the playoffs. Many people criticezed Cashman for not pulling the trigger on the deal that would have brought Johan Santana to the Yankees this season.

“Brian has shown throughout his Yankees career that he has the dedication, integrity and know-how needed to perform — and succeed — in this environment. Having him in place allows us to begin an offseason of hard work, and we are pleased he will be working hand in hand with us to bring the New York Yankees back to the postseason.” said the Steinbrenners.

As much as people complained about the Yankees having such a “horrible season” this year…people dont realize that 89 wins is not “horrible”. The Yankees had a good enough record to win the AL Central, or the NL Wild Card, or the NL West for that matter…. and the Yankees lost their ACe Chien Ming Wang, and one of their major contributors in Jorge Posada for most of the season.

Even though everyone is panicking, and calling for major moves… I think the Yankees are just one makor pitcher away from returning to the Series.
