YANKEES 12
MARINERS 6

Saturday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees offense went to work again, continuing to stay hot. The bombers scored 12 runs on 16 hits, on route to a 12-6 victory over the Mariners, to win their 4th straight game.

Mike Mussina did not look too sharp today, as he gave up 4 runs in 5 innings of work. Mussina allowed seven hits in five innings, to earn his seventh win. Joba Chamberlain came in the “long relief” role today with a one run lead in the 6th inning. Chamberlain pitched 2 shutout innings for the Yanks, which is supposedly preparing him for his “starting role”.

Offensively, the Yankee bats did their job again today. Giambi led the way with a three-run homer in the second inning and three hits in all, while Robinson Cano hit three doubles, Bobby Abreu knocked in four runs and Hideki Matsui scored on three of them.

This is the 4th straight win for the Yankees, and it looks as if the bats are starting to really click for them. Cano, and Giambi have really heated up, going to the opposite field with many hits recently. With the combination fo hot bats, and the soon return of Jorge Posada, the Yankees may be poised to make a huge run toawrds the All-Star break.
