The Yankeee have signd Angel Berroa, the 2003 American League Rookie of the Year, to a minor league contract. The 30-year-old shortstop has agreed to a Minor League contract with New York. According to The Associated Press, Berroa is guaranteed $66,000 under his deal.
Berroa will be invited to Yankee Spring Training, as he will try to earn a spot on the team as a utility player. His main competition will be Cody Ransom.
Angel Berroa was a Rookie if the Year with Kansas City Royals back in 2003, but has steadily declined in production each year, and most recently became a bench player with the Dodgers. Berroa hit .230 with one home run and 16 RBIs in 84 games for the Dodgers in 2008.
