May, 1, 2007, West New York, NJ  - When it’s time to go to work, you just have to go to work.  Rise to the occasion when the occasion arises.  We have to ring victorious in the next 2 series b/c we face a tough schedule for the rest of May.  God bless those rookies on the mound.  I have faith in Hughes and I think Igawa can pull through in his next appearance.  He’s taking Wang’s spot in the rotation b/c Wang split his nail in his last outing.  Speaking of last outings, I’m still morning the loss of the Karstens Kid.

But that’s okay, we’re in Texas now and the Rangers shouldn’t be too difficult.  After one and a half, we lead 2 – 0.  Posada has the first hit of the game.  Melky and Cano have the RBIs respectively.
Hughes is doing just fine.  I guess we’re making a play for Clemens right about now.  Pettite and Torre will probably be on the horn this week because of it.  If Cashman knows what’s good for him, he’ll make that play.  GO PITCHING.
.
Also, Damon doesn’t start today after going home to FL for a weekend to see his chiropractor 4 times.  Torre sat him, but he’s available from the bench.  We’ll probably see him tonight.  I hope we do.  He’s gotta get loose.  I hope he’s not trying to do too much and burning himself out.
.In the 3rd inning, Jeter gets a clean solid hit to left field, leaving him 1 for 2 so far.  Giambi gets walked and with no outs things are beginning to look good for us.  Bases loaded and UpperDeckie Matsui is up at the plate… *************.

8:52 pm Update: We now lead 6 - 0 with 2 out after Abreau goes down swinging.  Doug flies out and ends the inning.  .9:17 pm Update:  In the 5th Inning, we now lead 8 - 0 after at bats by A-Rod, Matsui and Posada who gets a 2nd and is 3 for 4.   Rangers decide to change pitchers.  Also VERY noteworthy is the fact that Hughes is still pitching a PERFECT GAME going into the bottom of the 5th.  Yes, Hughes was everything they said he was.  Not even old enough to drink, but he’s a damn good pitcher.    10:26 pm Update:  Operation “left hammy on the mend” begins now for Hughes.  I can’t believe we just lost another pitcher.  Something about a “pop” in his left hamstring.  When it rains, it pours.  Hope that kid pulls through.   Every win has to be at the expense of a terrible loss?  Mija is beside herself…  On the BENCH, Pettite says to Wang, “I think it’ll be alright.”  (It’s easy to read his lips…that’s why he covers his mouth on the mouth when he talks to Posada…) Anyway, Hughes’ shut-out ends in the 8th during Myers’ relief.  We go into into the 9th inning after giving up 1 run all game while NY gets their mOgO back with 9 runs on 13 hits.

FINAL SCORE:  10 – 1 Yankee win (and at the same time, a Yankee loss)
