YANKEES 6
ANGELS 12

Thursday night at the Stadium, the Yankees fell to the Los Angeles Angels, 12-6. Andy Pettitte got roughed up, and Chris Britton did even worse. The Yankees offense scored too little, too late.

Andy Pettitte pitched 5 1/3 innings, and was charged with nine runs on 11 hits. Pettitte walked three and struck out two. Pettitte gave up a 3 run homer to Torii Hunter, and then another 3 run homer to Juan Rivera and the other runs were actually a Vladmir Guerero 3 run homerun off of Chris Britton, in which 2 runs were charged to Pettitte.

Offensively, Bobby Abreu and Xavier Nady homered, and then the Yankees scored 3 runs in the 9th inning to make it look a bit closer than it really was. Ivan Rodriguez went 1-for-3 and allowed three stolen bases in his pinstripes debut.

The Yankees will send Sidney Ponson to the mound on Friday night in hopes to take game 2 from the Angels

GAME NOTES:
PETTITTE: 5.1 IP, 11H, 9ER, 4SO
ABREU: 1-5, HR, 2RBI
NADY: 2-3, HR, RBI

    No…this is not a JOKE!!
No.. I am not doing my usual Farnsworth bashing!!

The Yankees have announced today that they have traded Kyle Farnsworth to the Detroit Tigers for Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, a 13-time Gold Glove winner, was batting .295 with five home runs and 32 RBIs in 82 games with Detroit. A career .302 hitter, the 36-year-old catcher is in his 18th Major League season.

“It’s going to be exciting to play with the Yankees. A lot of players would like to play there and play with guys like A-Rod, [Derek] Jeter and [Jason] Giambi, catching [Mike] Mussina and those guys,” Rodriguez said. “It’s going to be nice. I’m excited for that. I’m going to be a little nervous in the beginning. Even all the years I’ve been playing this game, sometimes you get excited, too.”

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that Rodriguez is expected to join the Yankees on Thursday, as they open a four-game series with the Angels.

    ****************************
    NOW… on to my insight.
It’s no secret that I’ve been wanting to get rid of Kyle Farnsworth for about 2 1/2 years now. I know he has been pitching better as of late… but I still can not stand having him in the set-up role with the game on the line.
As far as Pudge goes… I am NOT a fan of him. He is a mediocre catcher, and has lost his once great batting power. It’s no coincidence that he was hitting well over .300 with 30 HR’s every season, until steroid accusations came up, and now he hits about 15 HR’s a season and bats around .290.

Overall… It’s a good trade, because Farnsworth is gone… and we have a Posada replacement for now. On the other hand, I like what Jose Molina has been doing behind the plate, and I hope that Girardi doesn’t make Molina an everyday bench player again. I’m hoping that he at least splits the time equally.

    YANKEES 13
    ORIOLES 3

Wednesday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees avoided a sweep at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles, with a 13- 3 victory. Joba Chamberlain pitched well for the Yankees, and Bobby Abreu provided 2 homeruns as part of the 13 run outburst.

Joba Chamberlain held Baltimore to 2 runs (only one earned) over six innings to post his second victory in as many starts. Chamberlain scattered five hits while walking none and striking out six. In the 7th inning, Edwar Ramirez entered the game and threw only one pitch, as he tossed one over the head of Kevin Millar, and was ejected by the home plate umpire. Dave Robertson came in after that to pitch the 7th and 8th, in which he gave up one run on a homerun. Dan Giese finished off the O’s in the 9th.

Offensively, the Yankees struck early and often. Alex Rodriguez hit an RBI single, and then a throwing error and a passed ball led to 2 other runs, to give the Yankees a 3-1 1st inning lead. Bobby Abreu extended the Yankees’ lead in the third when he drilled a honerun off the right-field foul pole for a two-run shot to extend the lead to 5-1.
The Yankees scored 4 more runs in the 6th inning, as Abreu opened the inning with a double and scored on Jason Giambi’s run-scoring single, and Xavier Nady added an RBI ground-rule double to remove reliever Brian Burres to give the Yanks a 9-2 lead.
In the 7th inning, Bobby Abreu connected on his 2nd homerun of the game, and was followed with a back to back homerun by A-Rod to give the Yanks a 13-2 lead.

The Yankees managed to avoid the sweep, and will now head into a 4 game series with the Los Angeles Angels, which have the best record in baseball.

    ORIOLES 7

Tuesday night at the Stadium, the Yankees dropped their 3rd straight game, falling to the Orioles, 7-6. Darrell Rasner got the start, and held the Yanks in the game, but the bullpen fell apart. The Yankees trailed 7-3 in the 9th inning, and rallied to cut the lead to 7-6, but Arod, Cano, and Betemit all struck out to strand the tying run.

Darrell Rasner pitched 6 innings, giving up 8 hits, and 4 earned runs, while walking 3 and striking out 1. Rasner actually pitched well, and held the Orioles to 2 runs over 6 innings, but after putting the first two runners on base in the 7th inning, Demarso Marte let in his 2 runs, and an additional 2 of his own. Trailing 6-3, MAriano Rivera came in for the 9th inning and gave up a solo homerun to Aubrey Huff, which ended up being the decisive run.

The Yankees could not get any offense going against Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera. The Yanks were shut out for the first 5 innings, until Alex Rodriguez hit a solo homerun to put the Yankees on the board. The Yankees then added 2 runs in the 8th inning, when Robinson Cano singled to drive in 2 runs.
The Yanks would then stage a rally in the 9th inning, when Bobby Abreu and Jason Giambi each singled to drive in a runs, to cut the lead to 7-6.
With the game 7-6, and a runner on 2nd base, Arod, Cano, and Betemit all struck out to end the game.

The Yankees have now lost 3 straight and drop to 4 games behind the Rays for first place. The Yanks will try to avoid the sweep on Wednesday afternoon, when they send Joba Chamberlain to the mound.

Pettitte scattered five hits, walking three and striking out seven to defeat the Red Sox. New addition to the Yankees, Demaso Marte came out of the bullpen in the seventh inning and struck out Ortiz, the only batter he faced, with 2 runners on. nady.jpg

On Saturday morning, the Yankees completed a trade, which most experts consider a “steal” for the Yankees. Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte were acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for four players — outfield prospect Jose Tabata and right-handed pitchers Ross Ohlendorf, Jeff Karstens and Dan McCutchen.

Xavier Nady is an outfielder, which will platoon in left field with Johnny Damon. Nady was batting .330 with 13HR for the Pirates this year, and gives the Yankees some much needed help from the right side.

Damaso Marte is a set up man, who is alefty, and had a 3.47 ERa and 5 saves for Pittsburgh. Marte will be th eonly lefty coming out of the Yankees pen, which will help in matchups.

The Yankees optioned outfielder Brett Gardner to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and designated right-handed reliever LaTroy Hawkins for assignment.

    RED SOX 0

Friday night at Fenway Park, the Yankees took the first game of the series in a pitchers duel, 1-0. Joba Chamberlain out pitched Josh Bekett, as he shut out the Red Sox for 7 inning, and Jason Giambi’s infield single pushed across the only run of the game.

Joba Chamberlain pitched seven scoreless innings, and matched a personal best with nine strikeouts while walking just one. Chamberlain was pulled after the seventh, throwing 103 pitches, 69 for strikes, and was dominant all night long, and retired the last 10 batters he faced.
Mariano Rivera came in with runners on 1st and 2nd, courtesy of Kyle Farnsworth, and got out of the jam, shutting out the Sox for 1 2/3 innings.

Offensively, the Yankees put together 10 hits, but couldnt cash in. The lone run came in the 3rd inning, when Jaosn Giambi hit an infield single to score Bobby Abreu. The Sox had the shift on for Giambi, which allowed him to hit a slow ground ball to the short stop, which was not there.

The victory extended the Yankees winning streak to seven games and drew the Yankees to within two of Boston in the AL East, while also remaining three back of the Rays.
Game 2 will be Saturday afternoon, when Andy Pettitte will face Tim Wakefield.

Tuesday night at the Stadium, the Yankees won their 5th straight game, by defeating the Minnesota Twins, 8-2. Boby Abreu went deep to give the Yankees the lead, andRobinson Cano stayed smoking with another multi-hit game. Darrell Rasner provided the pitching, by pitching 5 2/3 strong innings, and the bullpen shut down the rest of the innings.

Darrell Rasner blanked Minnesota over the first five innings before allowing two runs in the sixth, after a Jason Giambi error. Rasner was charged with two runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings, walking four and striking out two.
Dave Robertson (2-0), who threw one pitch to retire the final out of the sixth inning picked up the win.

Jose Veras set down the Twins with a scoreless seventh inning before Kyle Farnsworth handled the eighth without allowing a hit once again — his ninth straight inning with no hits allowed.

Offensively, Robinson Cano continued his second-half hot hitting to put the Yankees on the board in the second inning, singling to right-center and driving in Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees placed Jorge Posada on the disabled list Monday. Posada will have an MRI on his right shoulder today, and will then make a decision regarding season-ending surgery.

Posada spent 32 games on the disabled list earlier this season with right rotator cuff tendinitis. When Posada returned he spent alot of time at DH, due to the fact that he can not throw properly. Jose Molina has filled in at catcher most of this season, and has been outstanding behind the plate, which may be the reason why Posada is considering handling his injury now, rather than in the off season.

    Stay tuned for more info.
