Joe Girardi tried to lose the Subway Series Finale on Sunday afternoon, and succeeded. Girardi came up with one of the worst possible lineups that he could possibly throw out there to play the Final game of the subway series.

In a series that means alot fo the New York Fans, and Yankee fans, Joe Girardi put out a lineup that looked like this:
NY Yankees
Damon
Jeter
Rodriguez
Posada
Betemit
Cabrera
Molina
Christian
Rasner, P

Joe Girardi basically threw the final game of the series for some reason.
Rasner (4-6) held the Mets to just two runs on eight hits, and pitched well enough to get a win, but the Yankees bats could not do the job. Rasner was lifted after 5 innings, and replaced with rookie David Robertson , who gave up a run in his first inning of work, but came back with a scoreless 7th inning. The Yankees fell in the game 3-1.

The Yankees are now done with Inter-League play, and will face the Texas Rangers in a 3 game series starting on Monday at Yankee Stadium.

GAME NOTES:
RASNER: 5IP, 8H, 2ER, 3SO
JETER: 2-4

After a disasterous game 1 of the double header, in which the Yankees lost 15-6 against the Mets, the Yankees had a Sidney Ponson vs Pedro Martinez matchup for Game 2. to everyones surprise, Sidney Ponson won the match-up, 9-0.

Sidney Ponson gave the Yankees just what they needed… he gave them 6 innings of shutout baseball, and gave up just five hits, while striking out four. Ponson got into trouble a few times in the game, including 2 bases loaded jams, but he pitched his way out of them.

Bobby Abreu had a great game at the plate, going 4-4 and driving in 3 RBI.
Robinson Cano also chipped in with 3 RBI, and a homerun. Derek Jeter added two more RBIs and a double in the sixth inning to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. The best part of the offensive play in game 2, was that they worked counts, and hit Pedro Martinez hard.

The win was much needed for the Yankees, and will set up a great pitching matchup for Saturday when Andy Pettitte will face Johan Santana.

    GAME NOTES:

Wednesday night in Pittsburgh, the Yankees defeated the Pirates 10-0. Joba Chamberlain shutout the Pirates, pitching 6 2/3 innings of scoreless ball, while Bobby Abreu and Robinson Cano homered in the victory.

Joba Chamberlain (2-2), threw 114 pitches (76 strikes), scattering six hits while walking one and striking out seven. Chamberlain has been very impressive in his 5 starts thus far, with an 1.80 ERA, and has been extending his pitches each game.

Offensively, Robinson Cano stayed hot, as he clubbed his fifth home run leading off the sixth inning, and then Bobby Abreu connected on a three-run shot later that inning. The Yankees scored in 6 of the 9 innings of play. Abreu has 4 RBI on the night, while Giambi had 2 RBI, and Derek Jeter extended his hitting streak, going 3-3 on the night.

The Yankees will try to take the rubber game of series on Thursday when Mike Mussina takes the mound.

    farnsworth.jpg

    I can’t take it anymore… I want to break the T.V….
Who does Michael Kay think he is fooling?? OR
Who in the Yankee organization is forcing him to say these things??

After yet ANOTHER Kyle Farnsworth outing in which he gave up a homerun (which is everytime he enters a game), and when he leaves the mound, Michael Kay says his usual “Farnsworth has shown good stuff, and has pitched well as of late”.
HEY MIKEY…. What games are you watching???????

Enough with the charade…. you aren’t fooling anyone!!!!!!
Kyle Farnsworth has been HORRIBLE as a Yankee… there has been NO sign of improvement, and he is NOT going to get better.
Its time to give up the experiment, and give up the sugar coating!!

The Yankee fans cheered Farnsworth for the first time on Sunday..and the reason wasn’t for a well pitched game…it was cheering because he had to leave the game with an injury.
th ebest possible outcome would be if he never pitches again, and they give someone else a chance to be the set-up man.

As if it’s not annoying enough to hear Girardi sugar coat it, and watch Farnsworth give up HR after HR… we do NOT need Michale KAY lying in our faces every game.

    GIVE IT A REST!!!

    REDS 1

Sunday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees avoided being swept by the Reds, with a 4-1 victory. Andy Pettitte pitched a great game, and then an hour rain delay ended his day after the 6th inning. Jason Giambi provided the offensive spark for the Yankees, as he was a part of both run scoring innings.

Andy Pettitte (8-5) worked six innings, giving up just four hits, 0 runs and striking out four. Pettitte continued to lark sharp on Sunday, but had to leave the game after the 6th inning, due to a 1 hour rain delay.
The bullpen did a good job except for Kyle Farnsworth, who gave up a homerun (GEE SURPRISE). Farnsworth left the game with a hurt finger, as he tried to stop a line drive up the middle with his bare hand. Hopefully this means we will not have to deal with him anymore.

Jason Giambi sparked the lineup when he connected on a line drive to center field to kick off the fifth inning. He advanced on Jorge Posada’s double, and second baseman Robinson Cano sent Giambi home with a sacrifice fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Giambi would also come up big in the sixth inning, when he hit a 2 run double off the left-center field wall.
Giambi went 3-3 on the day.

The Yankees will take a trip to Pittsburgh to continue inter-league play against the Pirates on Tuesday, after having Monday off.

    GAME NOTES:
    PETTITTE: 6IP, 4H, 0ER, 4SO
    GIAMBI: 3-3, HR, 2 RBI
    POSADA: 2-4, RBI

    REDS 6

Saturday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees lost thier second straight game to the Cincinnati Reds, 6-0. The Yankees got a great outing from Dan Giese, but a throwing error, threw it all away. The Yankees offense did not help at all, as they left 12 runners on base, and got shutout.

Dan Giese, who was filling in for Chien-Ming Wang in the rotation, tossed 6 2/3 innings and yielded only four hits while tallying five strikeouts. Geise had a great game going in the 7th inning, and he pitched a double play ball on a comebacker to the pitcher, but when Geise turned to make the double play, he threw the ball away from Robinson Cano. After that play, the Reds would score 2 runs, and then Jose Veras would enter the game and give up a 2 run homerun. Giese actually finished the game with 0 earned runs, but earned the loss.

Offensively, the Yankees were bad. The Yankees stranded way too many runners in scoring position, including bases loaded with no outs in the second and runners on first and second with no outs in the third.
All in all, a bad offensive day for the Yankees against a bad Reds team.

The Yankees will look to avoid being swept on Sunday by the Reds, as they send Andy Pettitte to the mound.

    GAME NOTES:
    GIESE: 6.2IP, 4H, 0ER, 5SO

    PADRES 1

Thursday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees completed a sweep of the San Diego Padres with a 2-1 victory. The victory was the 7th straight for the Yankees, and Joba Chamberlain gave them a good quality start. The Yankees played small ball by stealing bases and sacrificing runners to score their runs.

Joba Chamberlain left with the game tied at 1-1, so he did not factor in the decision, but Joba pitched 5 2/3 innings of four-hit ball, striking out a career-high nine batters and allowing one run. Jose Veras, Kyle Farnsworth and Mariano Rivera held the Padres scoreless, kepeing them at 1 run for the game.

Offensively the Yankees played some small ball, and scratched out 2 runs. Melky Cabrera reached first base on a hit, and then proceeded to steal both 2nd and 3rd bases, setting up Jose Molina, who hit a sacrifice fly to score the Yankees first run. In the sixth inning, derek Jeter reached first base on a single, and then proceeded to steal second. After Abreu moved him to 3rd base, Alex Rodriguez hit a single to score Jeter, and give the Yankees what would be the winning run, 2-1.

The Yankees have now won 7 in a row, and are 7 games over .500 (40-33). The Yanks will send Mike Mussina to the mound as they start a weekend series on Friday night against the Cincinnati Reds.

    PADRES 5

Wednesday night at the Stadium, the Yankees won their 6th straight game by defeating the Padres, 7-5. Alex Rodriguez homered for the fourth consecutive game and Darrell Rasner won for the first time in nearly a month. The Yankees also proved what I always say to be true.. “the best National League pitchers, are just average pitchers in the A.L.”.

Darrell Rasner limited San Diego to two runs on three hits over five innings, striking out four. While it wasn’t one of his best performances of the season, he did enough to get the job done. Edwar Ramirez came in relief, and gave up back-to-back homeruns, and then Kyle Farnsowrth gave up a homeun (GEE SURPRISE), making the game a lot closer than it should have been.

The Yankees scored early on Peavy with a run in the 1st inning, and then Wilson Betemit and Johnny Damon stroked run-scoring hits in the second inning to give the Yanks a 3-0 lead. Alex Rodriguez homered for the fourth consecutive game, and had a 3 hit night. Jorge Posada, Derek Jeter and Bobby Abreu also drove in runs for the Yankees.
Everytime the Padres would cut the lead, the Yankees repsonded in the bottom half of the inning by scoring.

The Yankees are now 6 games over .500, and look to sweep yet another series on Thursday afternoon when the Yankees send Joba Chamberlain to the mound.

    GAME NOTES:

    RASNER: 5IP, 3H, 2ER, 4SO
    AROD: 3-4, HR, 2 RBI

Andy Pettitte recorded the 171st win of his pinstriped career, moving past Guidry for sole possession of fourth place. Pettitte pitched 7 innings, giving up no runs, while scattering five hits, walking only one and striking out nine. Jose Veras, Billy Traber and Mariano Rivera finished up for the Yankees.

Alex Rodriguez opned the scoring for the Yankees with a homerun in the 2nd inning, which was his 13th of the season. Jason Giambi belted a solo shot to right in the second inning and also clubbed a two-run shot in the fourth, giving him a team-leading 17 homeruns on the season. Chien-Ming Wang left the game on Sunday in Houston, after running the bases and scoring a run. Wang started limping around 3rd base, and had be taken out of the game, and taken for X-rays. Wang was examined Monday in New York and has been diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain of the Lisfranc ligament of the right foot and a partial tear of the peroneal longus tendon of the right foot.

In English terms…Wang will be on crutches and wear a protective boot for at least six weeks, the Yankees said. Wang would not be walking freely until almost early August, and would require weeks of rehab duty to return his arm to pitching form, so basically we are looking at September at the earliest, IF everything goes well.

Wang’s next scheduled start was to come on Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds, and the Yankees have not announced who will make that start. Right-hander Dan Giese looks as if he may be the canidate, unless the Yankees decide to bring up Ian Kennedy or Kei Igawa again, which hasn’t worked the last 3 times they have tried them.

Also.. don’t be surprised if the Yankees start testing the trad emarket to find a starting pitcher. The earliest rumors are that pitcers such as C.C. Sebathia, A.J Burnett, and Erik Berdard may be targets.
