YANKEES 7
TWINS 6

Saturday Night in Minnesota, the Yankees won their 3rd straight game, as they defeated the Twins in 12 innings, 7-6. Chien-Ming Wang had a rocky game for the Yankees, but the offense and bullpen came through for the victory.

Chien-Ming Wang struggled, as he left his pitches very high in the zone. Wang gave up runs in each of the first three innings, and only lasted 5.1 innings, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits, while striking out four and walking three.
Edwar Ramirez could not hold the 6-5 lead, as he gave up a solo homerun, which was the first run he has given up all season.
Ross Ohlendorf picked up the win, as he pitched 2 scoreless innings, and struck out 4 Twins batters to keep the game tied. Mariano Rivera picked up the save.

The Yankees scored three times in the third inning, which included a Bobby Abreu RBI double, and Alex Rodriguez tied the game with a line drive over scoring two. In the sixth inning, Jose Molina delivered an RBI double to right, and then Melky Cabrera lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring the Yankees fifth run. Damon capped the inning with an RBI single, and the Yankees had a 6-3 lead.

In the 12th inning, Johnny Damon got on with a one-out hit and moved to third on a Derek Jeter single. Abreu followed with an RBI single up the middle to score the game’s winning run for the Yankees.

The Yanks will play game 3 of the 4 game set on Sunday afternoon, as Darrell Rasner will look to continue his hot pitching.

GAME NOTES:
WANG: 5.1IP, 9H, 5ER, 4SO
ABREU: 2-5, 2 RBI
AROD: 1-5, 2 RBI
DAMON: 2-5, RBI

Ok..so it’s time for a rant on my part. You remember these from last season… it’s those times where something annoys me to the point of not being able to take it anymore (usuallu involving Kyle Farnsworth or Michael Kay). Well..time to RANT!!!

Aside from the fact that I think moving Joba Chamberlain to a starters role is a VERY BAD idea… and I will give my three main reasons here:
    1) They have no “Set up” man, and if they think that Kyle Farnsworth is a set up man, then enjoy watching the Yankees blow 95% of thier 8th inning leads if it’s a close game.
    2) Joba Chamberlain can’t pitch in a starters role, because everytime he goes more than an inning, he gets hit hard… and he has to drop his fastball from 98mph to about 91mph, making him an average pitcher.
    3) A set up man on this team of his talent level, is more important than a Starter, because he can be used to win 3 games a week instead of 1.

NOW..aside from that… my main rant is the dumbest comments to be possibly made by the Yankees, their broadcasters, and anyone else involved… and here it is…

After Joba Chamberlain came in to pitch an inning for Andy Pettitte, and bridge the gap to Mariano Rivera last night.. a certain announcer(s) said

“This is exactly why the Yankees are making this move. This was a great example of the effectiveness of the process to making Joba a starter. It worked out perfectly tonight”.

^^^ DUMB ASSES….. He came in to be the SET UP man for the night, just like he ALWAYS has done. If anything, it shows that the process is NOT working…because it showed that they still need him to pitch the 8th inning to get to MO.

WHO do the Yankees and thier Broadcaster think they are kidding?? Either they are really LOST, or they are just playing a bad game of kiss ass!!
A NORMAL and COMMON SENSE way to put the “Joba as a Starter” plan in effect, would be to give him Ian Kennedy’s start, and let him pitch however many innings or pitches he needs, and then have Kennedy take the game over. BUT instead, they put him in AFTER Andy Pettitte pitches???? Gee….I WONDER why?? Maybe because they are keeping him as a set up man while trying to get him pitches, because they have no other option????

WAKE UP…. Stop Sugar Coating things to make it sound like things are working…. when it’s not reality.

    YANKEES 4
    ORIOLES 2

Wednesday Night in Baltimore, the Yankees avoided the sweep at the hands of the Orioles with a 4-2 victory. Andy Pettitte pitched a good game for the Yanks, and Jason Giambi hit yet another shot on to Eutaw Street to lead the Yankees on their way to victory.

Andy Pettitte (5-5) gave the Yankees 6 2/3 innings and 96 pitches, and only yielded a 2 run homer to Melvin Mora. Pettitte gave up 8 hits, and struck out 3 before giving the game to Joba Chamberlain. Chamberlain came in to relief, and pitched 1.1 innings, and struck out 3, and then Mariano Rivera finished the O’s off in the 9th inning.

Jason Giambi hit another bomb onto Eutaw Street in the 4th inning to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. The Yankees regained the lead in the fifth, as Melky Cabrera tagged up and scored on a Derek Jeter sacrifice fly. The Yankees tacked on a fourth run in the eighth when Jamie Walker could not cover on Damon’s ground ball to first base, scoring Matsui.

The Yankees will have a day off on Thursday, and then will head into Minnesota for a 4 game series.

    GAME NOTES:
    PETTITTE: 6.2IP, 8H, 2ER, 3SO
    GIAMBI: 2-3, HR, 2 RBI
    DAMON: 3-5, RBI

    ORIOLES 10

Tuesday night in Baltimore, the Yankees let two 4 run leads slip away, and a 1 run 11th inning lead slip away. The Yankees and Orioles traded nine home runs, and Ian Kennedy got bombed once again, and the Yankee bullpen showed why it can’t afford to lose Joba.

Ian Kennedy went just three innings before serving up back-to-back homers and exiting due to a slightly strained right lat muscle (or so thats what the excuse was). The real reason he left, is that he got hit hard again, giving up 4 runs in only 3 innings. The bullpen did no better, as Ohlendorf gave up four runs — all on homers, and LaTroy Hawkins could not protect a one-run lead in the 11th, as he gave up 2 runs for the loss.

Offensively, the Yankees did their own bombing…hitting Orioles starter Brian Burres for eight runs in 3 2/3 innings, including back-to-back homers by Bobby Abreu and Alex Rodriguez in the fourth. Jason Giambi and Johhny Damon also added homers, and giambi’s homerun landed out on Eutaw Street.

The Yankees will send Andy Pettitte to the mound to try and salvage a game from the Orioles.

    GAME NOTES:
    KENNEDY: 3IP, 3ER, 3SO
    DAMON: 4-5, HR, 3 RBI

Monday Afternoon was not a Memorial Day to “Remember” for the Yankees, as they got their winning streak snapped at 5 games. Darrell Rasner pitched another gem for the Yankees and kept the game at 1-0, but the bullpen failed to shut down the O’s late, and the offense took the day off.

Darrell Rasner continued his impressive pitching, as he charged with only one run on five hits, walking one and striking out three in a six inning performance. Rasner continues to be a positive in the rotation, and gave the Yankees his 4th straight quality start. Unfortunately, the Yankees are sticking with this stupid Joba as starter plan, which leaves them with no bullpen. LaTroy Hawkins and Jose Veras came in and ended any chance of a Yankee win, as Hawkins was charged with three runs, and Veras served up a long homer to Aubrey Huff, to end up in a 6-1 loss.

Offensively, the Yankees gave no support to Rasner, as they had no runs on the board, until the score was 6-0 in the 9th inning. Hideki Matsui stroked his third hit of the game off reliever Jamie Walker and then scored on Chad Moeller’s two-out RBI single to left.

The Yankees will send Ian Kennedy to the mound on Tuesday, and hope for the best, and hopefully for some offense.

    GAME NOTES:
    RASNER: 6IP, 5H, 1ER, 3SO
    MATSUI: 3-4

    YANKEES 6
    MARINERS 5

Sunday Afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees came from 5-2 down in the 8th inning, to rally for a 6-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners. The victory was big for the Yankees on a few levels as it was their first come from behind win of the season (when trailing after 7 innings), their 5th straight win, a series sweep, and it pulls the Yankees to a .500 record at 25-25.

Chien-Ming Wang made the start for the Yankees, and ran into trouble in the 7th inning. Wang went 6.1 innings, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 2 batters. Wang gave up 2 runs in the 7th inning, to give the Mariners a 5-2 lead, but on came Edwar Ramirez to shut down the Mariners in relief. Ramirez has still yet to give up a run this season, and continues to be impressive out the bullpen.

Offensively, the Yankees offensive explosion came in the 8th inning while trailing 5-2, when the Yanks put up 4 runs on the board. Bobby Abreu blasted a double to score Derek Jeter to cut the lead to 5-3, and then after an A-Rod walk, Hideki Matsui hit a slow dribbler for an infield hit, and JJ Putz threw the ball away to allow the next run to score, to cut the lead to 5-4. Then Robinson Cano hit a sacrifice fly to score A-Rod, to tie the game at 5-5. Jose Molina then stepped to the plate and bombed a double over the head of Ichiro, to give the Yankees the go ahead 6-5 lead.
Mariano Rivera came in to close the game out for the victory.

The Yankees will start a Memorial Day series in Baltimore on Monday, as the red hot Darrell Rasner will take the mound and look to extend his record to 4-0, and the Yankees winning streak to 6 games.

    MARINERS 6

Saturday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees offense went to work again, continuing to stay hot. The bombers scored 12 runs on 16 hits, on route to a 12-6 victory over the Mariners, to win their 4th straight game.

Mike Mussina did not look too sharp today, as he gave up 4 runs in 5 innings of work. Mussina allowed seven hits in five innings, to earn his seventh win. Joba Chamberlain came in the “long relief” role today with a one run lead in the 6th inning. Chamberlain pitched 2 shutout innings for the Yanks, which is supposedly preparing him for his “starting role”.

Offensively, the Yankee bats did their job again today. Giambi led the way with a three-run homer in the second inning and three hits in all, while Robinson Cano hit three doubles, Bobby Abreu knocked in four runs and Hideki Matsui scored on three of them.

This is the 4th straight win for the Yankees, and it looks as if the bats are starting to really click for them. Cano, and Giambi have really heated up, going to the opposite field with many hits recently. With the combination fo hot bats, and the soon return of Jorge Posada, the Yankees may be poised to make a huge run toawrds the All-Star break.

    MARINERS 2

Friday night at the Stadium, the Yankees clobbered the Seattle Mariners, 13-2. Andy Pettitte picked up the win, and an 8 run 6th inning for the Yankees put the game out of reach. Joe Girardi was serving a one game suspension for argiung with the umpire on Thursday Night, but the Yankees may have had their most dominating performance of the season.

Andy Pettitte (4-5) gave the Yankees 6 innings of work, giving up only 2 earned runs on 8 hits, while striking out 9 batters. Pettitte looked impressive all night, as he retired 13 of the final 15 batters he faced. Latroy Hawkins and Edwar Ramirez finshed the final 3 innings off, and held the Mariners scoreless.

Offensively, just about everyone got in on the action. Shelley Duncan got the Yankees jump started with a three-run homer in the second inning. In the 6th inning, the Yankees jumped all over Berdard, scoring 8 runs in the inning.
Bobby Abreu had two hits and drove in two runs, Hideki Matsui had three hits and scored three runs, Robinson Cano drove in three runs, and every starter other than Derek Jeter recorded a hit.

The victory was the 3rd straight win for the Yankees, and a nice win streak is badly needed at this point. The Yankees will continue the weekend series on Saturday, as Mike Mussina will take the mound for the Yankees.

Wednesday night at the Stadium, the Yankees shut out the Orioles, 8-0. Darrell Rasner pitched yet another gem for the Yankees, shutting out the Orioles over 7 innings of work. Alex Rodriguez went yard again, hitting his 2nd homerun in consecutive days, and actually had a 3rd homerun, which umpires incorrectly ruled to be off the wall.

Rasner retired the first eight Orioles he faced, finally allowing a double to Freddie Bynum with two outs in the third. After that, Rasner would only give up four more hits and a walk over his seven innings, and striking out six. The seven innings and six strikeouts were both career highs for Rasner. He improved his record to 3-0. Joba Chamberlain entered the game in the 8th inning, and pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th innings.

Alex Rodriguez hit a home run in the third inning, and should have hit another one in the sixth, as the ball went over the outfield wall, and hit the facing of the bleacher stairs, and bounced back into play. The umpires thought the ball hit the outfield wall, and A-Rod was held to a double. On the night, A-Rod went 3-4, with 2 RBI.
Plenty of Yankees chipped in tonight, scoring 8 runs. Cano, Moeller each had 2 hits an an RBI each… Damon went 2-4 with 2 RBI, and Duncan and Jeter each had a hit and an RBI a piece.

Thursday night, the Yankees will send out Ian Kennedy for some reason, and try to win the series.

    GAME NOTES:

Tuesday night at the Stadium, the Yankees got bet badly, 12-2 by the Baltimore Orioles. The night marked the return of Alex Rodriguez to the lineup, and A-Rod hit a homerun. Mike Mussina got completely destroyed on the mound though, leading to a Yankee crushing.

Mike Mussina only lasted 2/3 of an inning, and left the game down 7-0 in the 1st. Although six of the runs are considered unearned, because they came after an error that would have ended the inning…. Mussina got rocked hard, giving up 5 hits and 2 walks in the 2/3 of an inning. Ross Ohlendorf gave up 3 runs in 3 innings, and then Veras gave up 2 runs in 1 inning. It was ugly all night!!

Offensively, the only bright spot was Alex rodriguez’ homerun in the 6th inning. The Yankees had 7 hits for the game, with Giambi and Abreu each having 2 hits a piece.

The Yankees will send Darrell Rasner to the mound Wednesday night in game 2.
