The Yanks and LaTroy Hawkins reportedly agreed to the $3.75 million deal that was on the table earlier this month. He comes to the Bronx after making 62 relief appearances for the Colorado Rockies in 2007, going 2-5 with a 3.42 ERA.

It would make sense to assume that Hawkins will fill in the role which Luis Vizcaino held for the Yankees this past season as the setup man.
The Yankees still unfortunately have Kyle Farnsworth on the roster, but I do not see Girardi being as stubborn as Torre by keeping him in thar role.

The Yankees instructed Robinson Cano to pull out of action with his Dominican Winter Baseball League club, the Orientales Estrellas, general manager Brian Cashman confirmed on Friday.

Cano was expected to play in only six winter league games to test an injury late in the season, Cashman said, but he was told to leave the club after Cano continued to play. He batted .389 in nine regular-season games for the Orientales.

All we need is another injury to a key player ….. so hopefully Robbie Cano sits out the Winter League, gets some good rest, and is ready to have another good season in pinstripes.

This past Sunday on rogerclemensonline.com and youtube.com, Clemens vehemently denied ever taking steroids or human growth hormone. Next up is an interview with Mike Wallace on “60 Minutes,” which will be taped in the near future and air on Jan. 6. Clemens plans to invite the media to watch the interview with him, and upon its conclusion, he will answer questions directly.

Clemens’ lawyer, Rusty Hardin, confirmed on Wednesday that he is moving forward with his own investigation into the Mitchell Report.
“Somebody is not telling the truth here,” Hardin said. “There may be some information we may not have out there. Roger just totally believeably denies the whole thing. We start looking at it — how can this happen?

“To our surprise, we have identified several people who logic dictates the Mitchell team should have talked to but did not. That’s troubling.

“There are people to talk to that were not by the Mitchell Commission. I’m increasingly surprised with the people and issues that were not looked at. I am blatantly, in the most self-serving fashion possible, urging the media to do the same thing.”

“When I was asked about it the first time, I said I didn’t think [filing a lawsuit] made much sense,” Hardin said on Sunday. “[Clemens is] a public figure and the standard is much higher as to what you would have to prove to succeed. But I have to tell you, we’re moving more and more in the direction of considering [a lawsuit] now, in spite of it.

“I would say simply that’s a possibility. No decision has been made about it. Quite frankly, the decisions about lawsuits and stuff will come later. We’ll get this initial thing out of the way, we’ll let everybody talk to him and ask him questions about whatever they want and then we’ll figure out where to go from there.”

    **********
So..for the people who were questioning “Well…Why if he is not guilty, then why won’t he sue??” THERES YOUR ANSWER!!

In light of an Associated Press report on Thursday that revealed Clemens and Andy Pettitte were not named in the Jason Grimsley affidavit, Houston-based attorney Rusty Hardin released the following statement:

“When this grossly inaccurate story broke in October 2006, Roger said it was untrue and the Los Angeles Times chose not to believe him. As the record now clearly proves, Roger was telling the truth then, just as he continues to tell the truth today.

“Roger Clemens did not take steroids, and anybody who says he did had better start looking for a hell of a good lawyer.”

“We acknowledge the inaccuracies of the report and deeply regret the mistake,” Times spokesman Stephan Pechdimaldji said to The AP.

In the affidavit, Grimsley accused Jose Canseco, Len Dykstra, Glenallen Hill and Geronimo Berroa of taking steroids. He also accused Chuck Knoblauch of using human growth hormone; David Segui and Allen Watson of using performance-enhancing drugs; and Rafael Palmeiro and Pete Incaviglia of taking amphetamines, according to IRS Special Agent Jeff Novitzky’s sworn statement.

Seems funny that when the report initially dropped about the steroids, I said on here “Let’s see the proof”. Seems as if some people may start retracting some words!!

“I want to state clearly and without qualification: I did not take steroids, human growth hormone or any other banned substances at any time in my baseball career or, in fact, my entire life,” Clemens said in a statement released by his agent, Randy Hendricks. “Those substances represent a dangerous and destructive shortcut that no athlete should ever take.

“I am disappointed that my 25 years in public life have apparently not earned me the benefit of the doubt, but I understand that Senator Mitchell’s report has raised many serious questions. I plan to publicly answer all of those questions at the appropriate time in the appropriate way. I only ask that in the meantime people not rush to judgment.”

This should get interesting ..but either way, I hope he is not back on the Yankees in 2008. I never wanted him here in the first place…and hopefully we have seen the last of him.

Mariano Rivera and the Yankees formally finalized a three-year, $45 million agreement on Monday. The pact will keep Rivera, a Yankee since 1995 and the most dominant postseason closer of all-time, in New York.

“I never saw myself on another team,” Rivera said. “It’s hard to picture myself in another uniform. We owe the respect for the rest of the team. I’ve been a member of the Yankees for so many years — I live here and I have my family here. I don’t think I could be on another team.”

Rivera, who turned 38 in November, becomes baseball’s highest-paid closer, earning $15 million per year through the 2010 season.

Although Rivera spoke about wanting to “hear other teams”…. I don’t think he had any intentions of going anywhere. He is a future first ballot Hall Of Famer, and would like to have the legacy of playing his whole career with the Yankees. So for the upcoming season….it will still be…

    ENTER SANDMAN!!!

Andy Pettitte admitted to using HGH to relieve his elbow injury in the 2002 season. Pettitte experimented with HGH twice while rehabilitating elbow tendinitis from April 21 to June 14, 2002, when he was on the disabled list and working out in Tampa, Fla.

“If what I did was an error in judgment on my part, I apologize,” Pettitte said Saturday in a statement released by his agent.”I accept responsibility for those two days.” “I had heard that human growth hormone could promote faster healing for my elbow,” Pettitte said. “I felt an obligation to get back to my team as soon as possible. For this reason, and only this reason, for two days I tried human growth hormone.”

“Though it was not against baseball rules, I was not comfortable with what I was doing, so I stopped,” Pettitte said. “This is it — two days out of my life; two days out of my entire career, when I was injured and on the disabled list.”
“Everything else written or said about me knowingly using illegal drugs is nonsense, wrong and hurtful,” Pettitte said. “I have the utmost respect for baseball and have always tried to live my life in a way that would be honorable. I wasn’t looking for an edge; I was looking to heal.

In wrap up… Andy Pettitte used steroids to heal an injury, only twice, when the drug was not against MLB rules. So…for all the Yankee haters…. SORRY… I guess your whole “cheater” theory goes right out of the window.

Speaking of which…. wasn;t it funny that ESPN claimed that the Yankees won the 2000 World Series with Pettitte on the mound, who was “on steroids”. Since when does taking an injection in 2002…help you back on the mound in 2000?? LOL

    Let the WITCHHUNT continue…..

Unless you were locked in a closet with no contact with the outside world, you have been bombarded all day with steroid talks. In the usual ESPN “Anti-Yankee” broadcast, we were reminded every 2 seconds that Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte were named as two players on the list of suspected Steroid users. As well… we even heard the stupidity of certain analysts saying “the Yankees shouldnt have won the Series in 2000, because they had guys on steroids”. lol

The pitchers were named by a former Yankees trainer, Brian McNamee, who detailed the alleged drug use of his two clients. Clemens vehemently denied the allegations through his legal counsel, while Pettitte declined comment through his agent.

“Roger has been repeatedly tested for these substances, and he has never tested positive,” said Clemens’ attorney, Rusty Hardin. “There has never been one shred of tangible evidence that he ever used these substances, and yet he is being slandered today.”

“The use of steroids in sports is a serious problem, it is wrong and it should be stopped,” Hardin said. “However, I am extremely upset that Roger’s name was in this Report based on the allegations of a troubled and unreliable witness who only came up with names after being threatened with possible prison time.”

Andy Pettitte has yet to comment. It is alleged that Pettitte “took steroids two to four times while recovering from his injury a few years back”. My take on this is.. 1)There is a huge difference between taking steroids one time to recover from serious injury..as opposed to taking them on a regular basis to cheat. and 2) How do you come up with a number such as 2 to 4 times?? You cant remember if you injected a guys ass 2, 3, or 4 times?? If it was that few amount of times..you would be able to give an exact number….not “2 to 4″.

It seems as if the BIASED witchhunt of Yankee players came from George Mitchell, who woroks with the Boston Red Sox!!!

It’s also funny…that all these are ACCUSATIONS…with NO PROOF!!

The Yankees started towards adding some much needed help in the bullpen, reaching a preliminary agreement with reliever LaTroy Hawkins on a one-year, $3.75 million contract. The right-handed Hawkins, who turns 35 on Dec. 21, was 2-5 with a 3.42 ERA with the National League champion Colorado Rockies this past season. He is expected to fill the role of right-hander Luis Vizcaino, who declined the Yankees’ offer of salary arbitration last week.

Hawkins appeared in 62 games for the Rockies, allowing 52 hits in 55 1/3 innings. He walked 16 and struck out 29.

Unforuntatly, the Yankees have been refusing offers from around the league for Kyle Farnsworth. If I were the Yankees, I would PAY someone to take him, or trade him for a Gatorade and a pack of gum.
If I have to sit through watching Farnsworth pitch again next season……
