Well… thanks to Joe Torre, the Yanks will not be repeating as the AL East Champions again. Since Torre took the cowardly way out of the season, by intentionally losing the final games, so they can avoid Anahiem, they let the Red Sox win the division. The AL Division Series are now set, with the Angels to play at the Red Sox and the Yankees at Indians.
Mie Mussina blew a big lead for the Yankees tonight. In the 5th inning, with a 7-2 lead, Mussina surrendered four consecutive run-scoring hits — singles to Miguel Tejada and Mora, doubles to Aubrey Huff and Ramon Hernandez — before finally escaping the inning on an outfield assist, as Hernandez was thrown out trying to advance to third base.
Then with a 9-6 lead, and 2 outs in the ninth, Rivera blew the game, as the O’s tied it at 9-9. The Orioles pushed across the winning run in the 10th against Edwar Ramirez.
The good news is the Yankees scored. Alex Rodriguez hit his 54th home run of the season. A-Rod’s two-run shot in the fourth inning off Leicester gave him 1,500 RBIs for his career, and Rodriguez also scored twice, reaching the 1,500 runs mark lifetime.
Well..bascailly this wekends games are meaningless!! I guess we will just have to root for the Phillies…because this would cap off a GREAT season if the Mets don’t make the playoffs after all this talk!!

DEVIL RAYS 2
Wednesday night in Tampa, the Yankees defeated the Devil Rays, 12-2. The victory clinched a playoff spot for the Yankees, which will be the 13th consecutive year they will be in the playoffs.
Chien-Ming Wang earned his 19th victory tonight, hurling six innings and scattering seven hits, allowing a first-inning run and Carlos Pena’s 43rd homer — a solo shot in the fifth — but little else. Wang walked three and struck out six before yielding to Joba Chamberlain for the seventh inning.
Chamberlain did his usual job…but Vizcaino got hit for 2 runs.
Derek Jeter homered to lead off the fourth and gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The fifth inning ended up being the game!! Jorge Posada would add a two-run single and Robinson Cano sent the next over the right-field wall for a three-run homer, part of a five-RBI night for the second baseman. The Yankees would score 2 in the 4th, 7 in the 5th, and 3 in the sixth inning, on their way to 18 hits and 12 runs.
The Yankees will now most likely be playing some meaningless games, since Joe Torre decided to not go for the win last night in the extra inning loss. Well..lets just get ready for the Wild Card…which will most likely (and hopefully) be Cleveland!!
GAME NOTES:
WANG: 6IP, 7H, 2ER, 6SO
JETER: 3-5, HR, 2 RBI
POSADA: 3-6, 3 RBI
CANO: 2-5, HR, 5 RBI

DEIVL RAYS 7
Tuesday night in Tampa, the Yankees lost 7-6 to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Joe Torre did everything in his power to lose this game, and did so.
Torre’s backwards thinking of “we don’t need this game, because we are going to clinch the wild card anyway”, caused the Yankees to lose the game.
Joe Torre brings in Jeff Karstens in the 10th inning of a 6-6 game, just because he wants to “rest pitchers” for the playoffs….and feels that the AL East Division is not important enough to try to win. The Yankees were only 2 games behind the Red Sox for first place, but Joe Torre feels that the division title isn’t important enough to win games.
** At LEAST try to clinch the Wild Card Spot before not trying to win games jackass!!
I know Yankee fans don’t want to hear this but…. It would be GREAT of the Yankees lost all remaining 5 games, and Tigers win all remaining 5 games… so the Yankees don’t make the playofffs. Torre didn’t learn his lesson, when he didn’t put away the Sox in 2004 ..and I hoe he gets burned again for his stupidity.
WHAT A WASTE to be 14.5 games behind Boston, and to come all the way back…and then not even try to win the division. I would have rather won the AL EAST and lost int he first round….then to finish second and get in as a Wild Card.
Hey JOE…. Grow some balls…and wake up!!!
PS: For those of you who don’t think Joe Torre is asleep during games and is Senile…. When asked after the game the other night “What is Ian Kennedy’s Status?” Joe Torre just looked at the reporter, scratched his head..and asked “Who is Ian Kennedy??”
THIS IS OUR MANAGER??

BLUEJAYS 4
Monday afternoon marked the final homegame at Yankee stadium for this season, and it also marked a chance for the Yankees to pull within 1 game of the Red Sox for the division lead. Unfortunately, the Yanks looked flat, and lost 4-1 to Toronto, and fell to 2 games back with only 6 remaining.
Andy Pettitte (14-9) allowed four runs (three earned) and five hits in a game that Toronto never trailed, suffering just his second loss in a span of 11 starts. Unfortunatley for Pettitte, the Yankees decided to not hit at all.
The only offense for the Yankees came in the 6th inning, when Jeter had doubled to open the inning, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Jeter made his way to 3rd base, and Alex Rodriguez tapped a ball in the infield to score Jeter for the Yanks only run.
The Yankees just looked flat, and like they didn’t want to play the game…when they should have been pumped up at the chance to pull within 1 game of the idle Red Sox. The only good news came when Detroit Tigers lost, and the Yankees magic number is now 1 to clinch the Wild Card.
GAME NOTES:
PETTITTE: 6IP, 5H, 3ER, 1SO
JETER: 1-4

Sunday afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees defeated the Blue Jays 7-5. Mike Mussina had a strong outing, and the Yankees bats were alive, as the Yankees pulled to within 1 1/2 games of the AL East lead.
Mussina held Toronto scoreless in six of the seven innings he pitched, with the exception of a three-run second inning. Mussina scattered seven hits and struck out five to pick up his 11th victory, winning his third consecutive start. Reliever Luis Vizcaino surrendered a two-run homer to Matt Stairs in the eighth before Joba Chamberlain came on to pitch out of a two-out, two-on jam, striking out Lind on a slider to end the inning. Chamberlain recorded all three outs in the ninth inning to record the first save of his career.
The Yankees put up a 3 spot in the 2nd inning, with 3 run scoring singles by Molina, Johnny Damon and Derek Jeter in the bottom half.
With the game tied 3-3 in the 5th, Robinson Cano would hit a run scoring single to give the Yanks the lead. Doug Mientkiewicz nubbed a slow roller up the third-base line that Russ Adams could not barehand, allowing a second run to score. Jose Molina came through with a bloop single to left that brought home New York’s sixth run, one of three RBIs in a three-hit game for the Yankees’ backup catcher.
Coupled with the Red Sox loss to the Devil Rays, the Yankees have pulled within 1 1/2 games of the AL East division lead. Monday afternoon, the Yankees will try to gain mroe ground with a make up game against the Blu Jays. Andy Pettitte will take the mound against AJ Burnett.

Wednesday night, in the Yankee Stadium season finale, the Yankees defeated the Orioles 2-1, which completed the 3 game sweep. Behind Andy Pettitte’s strong pitched game and aHideki Matsui homerun, the Yankees have cut the AL EAST lead down to 1 1/2 games behind the Boston Red Sox.
Andy Pettitte stayed strong into the eighth inning to log his 200th career win and help the Yankees get a series sweep. Pettitte scattered seven hits and struck out four in a 104-pitch performance. Joba Chamberlain entered mid-inning for the first time in his Major League career, striking out Mora to end the eighth. Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth inning for his 30th save, giving Yankee fans heartburn by loading the bases, but getting out of the jam.
Hideki Matsui started the Yankees’ offense in the second inning, with his 25th home run and second in three games. Yankees would scrape together another run in the fifth after Doug Mientkiewicz singled, moved up on a hit and fielder’s choice, then scored on a wild pitch. Thats all the offense for the Yankees on this night, in which pitching stole the spotlight.
The Yankees win, coupled with yet another Red Soxloss, has moved the Yankees to within 1 1/2 games back of the AL EAST lead. The Yankees also took a comanding 5 1/2 game lead over the Detroit Tigers for the Wild Card. The Yanks will now start a 4 game series with the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto.

Monday night at the Stadium, the Yankees defeated the Orioles 8-5, to pull within 3 1/2 of the Wild Card. Phil Hughes allowed two runs early, but recovered to keep give the Yankees enough to give them the win.
Hughes allowed two runs early, settled down to retire 16 of his next 18 batters, then gave way to the bullpen after loading the bases with two outs in the sixth. Edwar Ramirez came on to strike out Melvin Mora to keep the Yankees on top.
With the Yankees trailing 2-0, Doug Mientkiewicz tied the game with a two-run single in the second, and Hideki Matsui untied it an inning later with a solo homer. The blast was Matsui’s first in 122 at-bats and only his third extra-base hit of September. Six Yankees drove in runs, pushing them across over five separate innings, including Matsui, ARod, Damon, Abreu, Cano and Mientkiewicz.
The Yankees victory, coupled with the Red Sox loss to the Blue Jays, pulled the Yankees within 3 1/2 of Boston for the AL East lead.
Yankees will pit Mike Mussina against Jon Leicester.

REDSOX 3
Sunday Night in Boston, marked the final time that the Yankees and Red Sox would play each other in the 2007 Regular Season. The game lived up to its billing, having both starting pitchers pitch gems, a clutch 3 run homerun by Derek Jeter, and a Rivera vs Ortiz with bases loaded to end the game.
Roger Clemens vs Curt Schilling lived up to it’s hype. Clemens pitched a gem, holding Boston to just one unearned run and two hits over six innings.
Boston got its only run off Clemens in the first inning, when Johnny Damon misplayed an Ellsbury fly ball for an error, and after a one-out walk to Ortiz, Mike Lowell came through with a run-scoring single. Joba Chamberlain pitched well, but gave up a solo homerun to Mike Lowell to cut the lead to 4-2. Mariano Rivera made it very interesting in the 9th… when the Sox cut the lead to 4-3, and loaded the bases with 2 outs for David Ortiz. Rivera got the slugger to pop up to Derek Jeter, to end a great game, and a huge win for the Yankees.
Offensively, the Yankees had trouble against Curt Schilling. Robinson Cano hit a homerun in the 5th inning, to tie the game at 1-1. The big blow came in the 8th inning, with Schilling still on the mound, and 2 outs, Derek Jeter hit a BOMB over the green monster, to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.
The Yankees took two out of three games in the weekend series and move within to 4 1/2 games in the AL East with 13 games to play. More importantly, they keep their slim Wild Card lead over the Detroit Tigers.
The Yankees will start a series with Baltimore, at Yankee stadium on Monday night. Phil Hughes will face Daniel Cabrera. EVERY game from this point on, is a HUGE game!!
GAME NOTES:
CLEMENS: 6IP, 0ER, 4SO
JETER: 2-4, GW HR, 3 RBI

RED SOX 7
Friday night in Boston, the Yankees came back from a 7-2 deficit in the 8th inning, to beat the Red Sox 8-7. The Yanks 6 run, 8th inning explosion, came off of the “unhittable” bullpen combo of Hideki Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon.
Andy Pettitte started the game for the Yankees, and although his numbers for the night did not look good at all… it was more a case of some horrible Yankee defense. Pettitte allowed five runs (four earned) and nine hits, but it was costly errrors and misplayed balls, that extended innings that should have been over. Jason Giambi had a rough day in the field, with 2 miscues which led to Boston runs.
The combination of bad defense, bad bounces, and the fact that the Yankees had runners in scoring position almost every inning, and could not score… had most Yankee fans feeling that the night was over, and any chance of catching Boston for the AL EAST was over as the score board read 7-2 in the 8th inning. However… the game is not over..till it’s over…
To lead off the 8th inning, Jason Giambi and Robinson Cano hit back to back homeruns, to cut the lead to 7-4. Melky Cabrera worked a walk, and Damon doubled…leading up to a Derek Jeter RBI single to cut the lead to 7-5. Bobby Abreu bombed a double off of the center field wall, dirving home Damon and Jeter, and the game was ties at 7-7. alex Rodriguez would come up big, yet again, with a big RBI game winning single, to push the Yankees ahead for good, 8-7.
This Yankees comeback could be one of those that we look back on at the end of the season, and could be the game that leads to Bostons collapse. The Red Sox were on the verge of virtually wrapping up the division with a 7-2 lead in the 8th… and instead, blew the game and now have the Yankees only 4 1/3 games back, leading into Saturday afternoons matchup between Cy Yougn candidates Chien-Ming Wang and Josh Bekett.
GAME NOTES:
PETTITTE: 4IP, 4ER, 9H, 5SO
GIAMBI: 1-3, HR, RBI
CANO: 1-5, HR, RBI
AROD: 1-4, RBI
DAMON: 4-6, RBI
ABREU: 1-4, 2 RBI
