RED SOX 0
Thursday Afternoon at the Stadium, the Yankees completed a sweep of the Boston Red Sox with a 5-0 win. The victory gave the Yankees a 3 game sweep of the Sox, and pulled them to within 5 games of the division lead, and gave the Yanks a 1 game advantage over the Mariners for the Wild Card spot.
Chien-Ming Wang pitched a great game today, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Wang pitched seven innings, giving up 0 runs and only 1 hit, while striking out 5. Joba Chamberlain pitched a scoreless 8th inning, but was then ejected in the 9th inning for “throwing at” Kevin Youkilis.
Offensively, Robinson Cano was the story of the day. Cano hit 2 solo homeruns, to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead, which was all they would need. Bobby Abreu added an RBI double off Hideki Okajima in the eighth, and then when attempting to steal 3rd base, Jason Veritek threw the ball away, allowing Abreu and Arod to score. Derek Jeter went 4-4 in the game.
With the sweep, the Yanks pull to within 5 games of Boston, and have taken a 1 game lead in the Wild Card race over Seattle. The Yankees will now face Tampa Bay in a 3 game series. Phil Hughes will take the mound in game 1.

Of course, after seeing Joe Torre bring in his boyfriend Kyle Farnsworth into an 8th inning game yesterday, one has to think he is throwing games.
Is Kyle Farnsworth blackmailing Joe Torre?
Is Joe Torre senile?
What other explanation can there be for the stupidity of Joe Torre??
I have had to write the SAME THING over 15 times this year on this blog, because Joe Torre coninues to use Farnsworth in 8 inning big spots. HOW MANY TIMES does he have to fail before Joe stops?
Just as I predicted, when Farnsworth pitched a few decent games (in situations that were meaningless), I KNEW that Torre would find an excuse to bring Fanrnsworth back tot he 8th inning role.
Liek I said to Yankee fans… We should “BOO” Farnsworth and Torre everytime he gets brought into a game. This combo will 100% KILL US in this playoff run. Something needs to be done before its too late.
I actually hope Farnsworth gives up a HR, EVERYTIME he comes into a game, just so there is a chance of him being dropped, and Torre being fired.
George Steinbrenner…Brian Cashman…. PLEASE END THE MADNESS…. isn;t there a rule of “no relationships with team mates??”

RED SOX 3
Wednesday night at the Stadium, the Yankees took their second straight from the Red Sox, 4-3. Roger Clemens had a strong performance, holding the Sox hitless through the first 5 innings. Joe Torre made the game interesting,by trying to throw the game by bringing his boyfriend Kyle Farnsworth into the game, which as usual, gave up a 2 run homer to cut the lead to 4-3. Mariano Rivera cane in to save the game.
Roger Clemens pitched 6 innings, surrendering only 1 run on 2 hits. Clemens struck out only 2, and walked a season high 5 batters, but still got the job done. With a 4-1 lead in the 8th inning, Joe Torre tried to throw the game by bringing Kyle Farnsworth in. As usual, Farnsworth gave up a 2 run homerun, cutting the lead to 4-3. (As you have seen in about 15 blogs this year...I predicted that the Torre/Farnsworth love affair would cost them in big spots). Thankfully, Mariano River cane into save the game for the Yankees.
Offensively, the Yankees struck early. In the second inning, After Jorge Posada singled and Robinson Cano walked, Melky Cabrera came through with a run-scoring single to center, one of his three hits. Johnny Damon, followed with a grounded single through the left side that brought home two runs, giving the Yanks a 3-0 lead. Alex Rodriguez would hit a homerun in the seventh inning, to up the Yankee lead to 4-1, it was Arod's 44th HR of the season.
The Yankees will go for the much needed weep of the Bsoton Red Sox on Thursday afternoon, in which they will send out Chien-Ming Wang agaisnt Curt Schilling. Most likely, Torre will try to avoid the sweep by benching starters like Posada, by using the "day game excuse".
GAME NOTES:
CLEMENS: 6IP, 1R, 2H 2SO
AROD: 2-4, HR, RBI
DAMON: 1-5, 2RBI
POSADA: 2-3

RED SOX 3
Tuesday Night at the Stadium, the Yankees defeated the Red Sox 5-3 behind a strong outing from Andy Pettitte, and the Yankees bullpen. With the game tied at 3-3 in the 7th, Johnny Damon delivered a 2 run homer to give the Yankees the 5-3 lead. Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera would keep the score right there, and the Yankees pulled to within 7 games of Boston.
Andy Pettitte pitched a strong outing, pitching seven innings of three-run, six-hit ball. Pettitte, who once again stepped up as a stopper, improved to 69-33 in games immediately following a Yankees loss. Pettitte had 6 strike outs and only two walks against one of thebest offenses in baseball.
Joba Chamberlain came in to hold Boston in the 8th inning, and Mariano Rivera pitched a 1-2-3 inning in 9th inning for the save.
With the game tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the 5th inning, Derek Jeter broke the tie with a solo homerun. Jeter’s homer was his 192nd of his Yankees career, tying him with Tino Martinez for 13th place on the club’s all-time list. After Boston tied the game at 3-3, Johnny Damon hit a 2 run homer in the 7th off of “No Dice-K”. Thats how it would end, a 5-3 victory for the pinstripes.
Wednesday night, Roger Clemens will face Josh Bekett in game 2 of the set.

TIGERS 5
Sunday Afternoon in Dtroit, the Yankees lost to the Tigers 5-4. Phil Hughes gave up 3 homeruns, and the Yankees fell short in their comback attempt.
You can look at the Yankee postgame show, Yankees.com, and listen to Michael Kay try to say that Phil Hughes did not pitch a bad game….but reality is, he did. I like Phil Hughes, and think he will be a good pitcher, but the past two games he has gotten bombed, and the Yankee media tries to sugarcoat it, and claim he did not pitch bad. Hughes finished with six strikeouts and a walk, but surrendered five runs on four hits, including 3 homeruns. THATS BAD!!
Jason Giambi hit a homerun, to continue his power surge since he has returned from the DL. The Yankees trailed 5-1, but Robinson Cano hit a 3 run homer to cut the lead to 5-4. Unfortunately, the Yankees would not score again.
With the loss, the Yankees dropped to 7 games back of Boston, and basically took the steam out of the upcoming series against the Red Sox. Monday night, the Yankees will try to take the last game of the set, when they pit Mike Mussina against Justin Verlander.
GAME NOTES:
HUGHES: 6IP, 5ER, 6SO
GIAMBI: 2-4, HR
CANO: 1-4, HR, 3RBI

TIGERS 9
Friday Night/Sat Morning in Detroit, the Yankees lost 9-6 to the Tigers in extra innings. After a 4 hour rain delay, and 11 innning of baseball until 3:45am, Carlos Guillen’s three-run homer off reliever Sean Henn gave the Tigers the victory. Why Joe Torre was dumb enough to bring Henn in to blow yet another game…. we have no clue. Oh wait…yes we do.. he’s Senile!!
Roger Clemens walked three and struck out three over five innings, giving up 6 runs. After the Yankee offense tied it up, the bullpen did a great job, until Henn gave up the 3 run homer. Edwar Ramirez had pitched a scoreless sixth and Joba Chamberlain retired the Tigers in order in the seventh before Kyle Farnsworth followed suit in the eighth. Luis Vizcaino allowed two baserunners in the ninth but got Casey to fly out, sending the game to extra innings. Mariano Rivera then got out of a bases loaded jam.
Alex Rodriguez had a 2 run homerun in the 3rd inning, and New York scored three times in the fifth to tie the game, with Posada drilling a two-run double and Hideki Matsui greeting reliever Tim Byrdak with an RBI single.
With the loss, the Yankees dropped 6 1/2 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East, while moving 3 games behind Seattle for the AL Wild Card. Saturday Night is a must win for the yankees, pitting Chie-Ming wang against Jeremy Bonderman.
GAME NOTES:
CLEMENS: 5IP, 6ER, 3SO

Wednesday night in Anahiem, the Yankees avoided the sweep with a 8-2 victory over the Angels. Andy Pettitte pitched a gem against a very good Angel offense, picking up his fifth consecutive victory. This victory was a must for the Yanks, especially coupled with loses by both Seattle and Boston.
Andy Pettitte pitched seven innings of one-run ball, and has limited opponents to eight earned runs over his last 35 innings. Pettitte struck out six and walked two. Joba Chamberlain, who struck out the side around a single in the eighth. Mariano Rivera surrendered a run in the ninth inning but recorded the final three outs for the Yankees.
The Yankees were down 2-1, but regained the lead in the seventh, scoring twice on run-scoring hits by Melky Cabrera and Derek Jeter. Bobby Abreu padded the Yankees’ lead with a home run leading off the eighth. Cano and Hideki Matsui each had three of New York’s 16 hits.

We all knew it was coming…
Once Kyle Farnsworth actually pitched a scoreless inning (in a game in which Yanks were losing 12-0), WE ALL KNEW that Joe Torre had his excuse to bring Kyle Farnsworth in an 8th inning situation again!!
Joe Torre’s senile actions and/or his love affair with Kyle Farnsworth has taken over again!! Torre has just been dying to put Farnsworth back in the 8th inning spot. NOT only shouldn’t Farnsowrth be pitching in the 8th inning, he should not be pitching in the MAJOR LEAGUES!!!
WE ALL thought that FINALLY after blowing every game possible, and Torre finally pulled him out of the 8th, that we saw the end of Farnsworth. HOWEVER…we have Farnsworths boyfreind Joe Torre as the manager!!!
Like I have said MANY times… it is in OUR (Yankees) best interest, if Farnsworth blows every single game he pitches…that way either:
1) He will finally be gone or
2) Joe Torre will be fired for being dumb enough to bring him in.
Farnsworth is going to blow a HUGE GAME or a plyoff game if him and Joe Torre are still on this team at the end of the season stretch. There should be a rule “NO DATING FELLOW EMPLOYEES”
Seeing that Torre is still DUMB enough to bring him in to games…I have offically had it!! THANK YOU Joe for the World Series Championships when you were a half decent manager…. BUT..the time has come!!
You are SENILE…and need to be GONE!!!

ANGELS 7
Monday Night in Anahiem, the Yankees dropped a heartbraker to the Angels, 7-6. Depsite Joe Torre bringing in Kyle Farnsworth in the 8th, the Yankees manged to take the game to extra innings. And after for some reason using Mariano Rivera in the 9th inning, Sean Henn came in to give up the winning run in the 10th.
Phil Hughes held the Angels to just Mathis’ three-run double through his first six innings. In the seventh, Hughes put runners on 1st and 2nd, and Torre called upon Luis Vizcaino. Vizcaino would give up 3 consecutive hits, and left the inning with a 6-4 Yankee defecit.
The Yankees had only managed 2 runs through 5 innings, but Alex Rodriguez hit his Major League-leading 40th home run off Chris Bootcheck in the sixth. With the Yankees trailing, 6-4, in the eighth, Posada came through with his 16th home run, a two-run shot to right off Justin Speier.
For some reason, Torre used Rivera in the 9th inning (he must have thought they were home… Torre falls asleep in the dugout and forgets sometimes), and retired the Angels. However, Torre called upon Sean Henn in the 10th, and he gave up back to back doubles to lose the game 7-6.
The Yankees will face the Angels in Game 2 of the set Tuesday night, when Mike Mussina faces Kelvim Escobar.
GAME NOTES:
HUGHES: 6.1IP, 4H, 5R, 4SO
POSADA: 1-4, HR, 3 RBI
AROD: 3-5, HR, 3 RBI
JETER: 2-4
