OAKLAND 7
Another Saturday afternoon at the Stadium, and yet another embarrasing loss for the Yankees. The Yankees were 1 hit by a no name (Chad Gaudin), and lost 7-0.
Kei Igawa, who retired the first eight batters he faced, struck out four and walked three, allowing five hits and four runs in 6 1/3 innings. Scott Proctor and Mike Myers combined to pitch one-third of an inning, surrendering four hits, a walk and three runs. Great Bullpen work!!
Offensively, the Yankees were 1 hit, and the only hit of the game was a single by Johnny Damon in the 6th inning. The Yankees should be embarrassed.
The Yankees look to avoid losing yet another series tomorrow, when they face off against the A’s in the rubbe rmatch of the series. This should be a great pitching match up, Andy Pettitte vs Dan Haren. Do not be surprised if the Yanks get NO HITTED this time.
GAME NOTES:
IGAWA: 6.1 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, 4 SO
YANKEE BATS: NEVER SHOWED UP (1-28)

Friday night, the Yankees return home to the Stadium to face the Oakland A’s, after a horrible road trip in which they went 1-7. The Yanks beat Oakland 2-1, behind a strong pitching performance by Mike Mussina.
Mike Mussina (4-5) pitched a gem for the Yankees, going 7 innings, giving up only 1 run on 6 hits, and striking out 3 Athletics. “I just feel like I have my feet under me better on the mound and that I know where the ball is going, and I have confidence in my stuff,” Mussina said. “I’ve been out there for the last month or so, doing a pretty decent job and feeling decent about the way I’ve been throwing the ball. I think things are improving; I just want to throw the last three months of the season the way I threw [in] June. Rivera stuck out three A’s as he pitched 1 1/3 innings for his 10th save of the season and a milestone win for Torre.
Offensively, the Yankees did not do much. The Yanks scored 2 in the first inning, an dnever put anothe rmark on the scoreboard. Alex Rodriguez hit an RBI double and Jorge Posada drove in A-Rod with a single. A-Rod went 3-for-3.
Game 2 of the series will be Saturday afternoon at the Stadium, pitting: Kei Igawa vs Chad Gaudin.
GAME NOTES:
MUSSINA: 7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 3 SO

Chien-Ming Wang pitched 6.1 innings, and looked good until the 7th inning, when he gave up 4 runs to put the Yanks behing 6-4. Wang gave up 6 runs on 9 hits, and only struck out 1.

Robinson Cano went 0-for-2 with a walk and is now in an 0-for-10 slump over the last three games. His brief slump has come at the tail end of a three-game streak of multi-hit games, but manager Joe Torre had him in the No. 8 spot for Wednesday’s game with Bobby Abreu being moved up to the sixth slot. Cano is hitting a disappointing .268 with three homers and 32 RBI along with 22 doubles, after hitting .342 with 15 homers and 78 RBI and 41 doubles last season, but he posted similar first half totals before hitting .365 with 11 homers and 51 RBI after the All-Star break a year ago.

Tuesday in Baltimore, the Yankees dropped the first game of the series to the Orioles, 3-2. With the game tied 2-2 in the 9th inning, Scott Proctor walked in the winning run. Proctor had already walked the lead off batter of the inning, and walked another batter and showed absolutely NO control. Not only was he wild, but he actually hit Hernandez with the bases loaded, and got lucky enough for the umpire ot miss the call…yet Joe Torre left him in the game instead of bringing in Rivera.
Anfy Pettitte pitched well for the Yankees, which did not score for him (gee what a surprise). Pettitte lasted seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, walked five and struck out two.
The Yankees, held to two hits over the first five innings by right-hander Jeremy Guthrie, tied it in the sixth. Miguel Cairo hit a one-out single and Johnny Damon followed with his fifth homer, a two-run shot to right.
Joe Torre is senile and needs to be fired!!
Yankees will face the Orioles again tomorrow in Baltimore, pitting useless Roger Clemens vs Erick Bedard.
GAME NOTES:
PROCTOR: SUCKS AND SLEEPS WITH TORRE
PETTITTE: 7 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 2 SO
JETER: 2-4

Aside from the horrible play of the Yankees this season, and Joe Torre’s assanine commetns and coaching moves, the latest news may be the sign of the end of the Torre era. Joe Girardi turned down the Orioles job last week.
A job as a Baltimore Oriole manager is not a job that one would turn down if interested in a coaching job in the MLB. Why did Joe Girardi turn down this job?? Hmmm…. easy answer. Obviously, he was told by George Steinbrenner that he is next in line for the Yankee job. And not only in-line…but most likely for next season.
It’s not like Girardi wants to take some time off to broadcast. He was asked during a broadcast yesterday, and said “the time wasn’t just right. i definetly would like to manage a team very soon…but this wasn’t right”.
Then when asked about being the next Yankee manager, Girardi said “I would love to…but i’m not looking to push Joe Torre out. if the opportunity arises when Torre is gone, it would be a great job to have”.
I would expect Torre to be gone next year, and Girardi as the new manager. (If Torre lasts all of this year).

Sunday Afternoon in San Francisco, the Yankees dropped the rubber game to the Giants, 7-2. Mike Mussina took the loss, and the Yankees could not score. This road trip has started the Yankees out 1-5, losing to two horrible NL teams (Rockies and Giants), after making the nice run a few weeks earlier.
Mike Mussina (3-5) took the hill today, and walked three and struck out five, allowing five hits and 3 runs. Mussina was gone after five innings and 105 pitches. It didnt help that Will Nieves was behind the plate, and once again, base runners ran at will. The Yanks were so desperate that they brought in Roger Clemens for an inning of relief, and even he gave up a run.
Offensively, the Yankees did absoultely nothing again, aside from A-Rod, who had an incredible series. Alex Rodriguez went 1-3 with an RBI today. The “bombers” only managed 5 hits.
The next trip for the Yankees will be in Baltimore on Tuesday. Andy Pettitte will face Jeremy Gunthrie.
GAME NOTES:
MUSSINA: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 5 SO
A-ROD: 1-3, RBI
PHILIPS: 1-1, RBI

Satruday Afternoon in San Francisco, the Yankees lost in a marathon of a game, 6-5 in 13 innings to the Giants. The Yankees blew a 4-1 lead, and came back to tie the game in the 9th inning on an Alex Rodriguez homerun.
Wang worked 6 1/3 innings, giving up 4 earned runs, and then Mike Myers came in and blew the lead for the Yankees. With reliever Scott Proctor pitching in his third inning, Ryan Klesko opened with a single to right, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. An out later, Omar Vizquel dropped a hit in front of a diving Melky Cabrera, driving in the winning run.
The Yankees only scored 5 runs on 17 hits. The Yankees stranded the bases loaded numerous times, and it came back to haunt them. Cabrera and Jorge Posada helped the charge for New York with three hits each, supplementing A-Rod’s four. A-Rod also hit the game tieing homerun in the top of the 9th inning.
The Yankees will try to win the rubber game of the series Sunday afternoon, pitching Mike Mussina against Noah Lowry.

Friday Night in San Francisco, the Yankees defeated the Giants 7-3, to snap their 3 game losing streak. Kei Igawa made his first start for the Yankees since returning from the minor leagues, and looked ver impressive for the first 4 innings, but got a little shaky in the 5th.
Kei Igawa took the mound against the San Francisco Giants, and looked good to start. Through the first 4 inings, Igawa had given up 0 runs, and struck out 5. However, in the 5th inning, he ran into some trouble. Igawa gave up a few hits ina row, and then loaded the bases, and walked Barry Bonds to bring in a run. The Yankees still had a 6-3 lead at this point, when Igawa was pulled from the game for reliever Luis Vizcaino. Vizcaino gave up a deep drive to left, and a great jumping the wall catch by Hideki Matsui saved the game from possibly being tied.
Offensively, the Yankee bats finally came alive, after being shutdown in Colorado. Melky Cabrera stroked a two-run single to put the Yankees up 3-0 in the second inning. In the fifth. Bobby Abreu doubled off the warning track in right-center field to score Derek Jeter, and Rodriguez lined a single to center knocking in Yankees’ fifth run. Alex Rodriguez had a huge game, going 4-for-4 with 2 RBI.

ROCKIES 4
Thursday Night in Colorado, the Yankees lost their 3rd straight to the Rockies, 4-3. Roger Clemens didn’t pitch too well, and the Yanks offense could not score in the easiest ballpark to score runs.
Clemens ran out of gas after just 4 1/3 innings while allowing 4 runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out six. Clemens also gave up 2 long balls in the game.
The Yankees managed just five runs over the 27 innings in the series, which is horrible considering this ballpark gives up the most runs in baseball. Derek Jeter extended his hitting streak to 15 games, and Hideki Matsui belted a homerun.
The Yanks dropped back down to .500, and will head into a weekend series in San Francisco to face the Giants. Kei Igawa will make his first start since his return from the minors, and will face Matt Cain.
GAME NOTES:
CLEMENS: 4.1 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 6 SO
MATSUI: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI
